We had planting activities in this area 13 years ago as a boy scout. Were really amazed with how the park was improved by the City government. It is very clean and the surrounding man made structures are well painted and landscape was well arranged. It blends well with the lush long trees and green shades of the park.
Tourism Office and Park
The City Tourism office building is the most notable structure upon entering the park. It is colored with light color surrounded by a beautiful garden of trees, plants and flowers.
You will also see monkeys, birds and other animals near the office. There is a pond in front of the building.
There is NO ENTRANCE FEE to the park. You will be asked to log your name in the guest book. “Cogon” made bamboo chairs serve as waiting areas for visitors. Rest rooms are conveniently located at the back of the office.
A small park is located in front of Tourism Office with colorful benches, great landscaping and small huts.

“Brownie” The preserved Pawikan

You will notice a 2.5 feet preserved Pawikan near the bamboo chairs being displayed.
We took pictures of it while waiting for the Tourism officer to arrive. We called the preserved Pawikan “Brownie” because it is colored brown. Err.
Cogon Eco park trail Entrance and main trail
The colorful and emphatic entrance is probably the most favorite landmark for tourist.

There is a good trek up to the Aviary and Wildlife Park with different trees and plants on the side with their common name and scientific name tags.
The Aviary and wildlife park offers a scene for visitors to see animals from Cogon and Zamboanga del Norte. This is 120 meters away from the trail entrance. We saw rabbits, a hawk, an eagle, a snake, a boar, peacocks, doves, monitors lizards and other animals.

We also saw a WILD SNAKE crawling on top of the main Aviary cage. Awesome!
Subanen is a native tribe in the Zamboanga peninsula. They lived in trees and are once uneducated indigenous people in the province.

The Subanen Village is located 30 meters away off the trail of the Aviary and Wildlife Park. It has 3 tree houses and a medium size Tribal hall.
1KM and 4 KM Adventure Treks
There are designated trails for trekkers and mountain climbers in the park to explore the mountain area and some parts of Cogon.
Rating: Easy and place is very accessible with public transport.
1. Ride a tricycle from your hotel/house in Dipolog to Satellite Market bus terminal, Dipolog City for 7.00 Php. This will take 10 minutes if your hotel is located near the central barangay.
2. From the terminal, ride a bus/jeep/truck bound or that will pass “Diwan” or “Cogon” Dipolog City. “Pagadian City” bound buses also travel via this route. RURAL Co. Bus fare to COGON ECO PARK as of 7/21/2010 is 30Php. Ask the conductor to drop you at the COGON Eco park entrance near the highway. Look for a sign “WELCOME TO COGON ECO PARK” along the highway.
There are separate ramp road as ENTRANCE and EXIT that is 50 meters apart. Distance is 42 KM from the main city and travel time is 48 minutes.
3. You can always ride your own car/van to get to the place with no road problems.
Special thanks to Auntie Dolores for letting me borrow their van.
Enjoy your trip!
