Sabang is a small coastal barangay 80km away from Puerto Prinsesa City that serves the jump off point to the famous Palawan Subterranean River. I will write another article about the river tour.
It is highly recommended that you stay for a night in Sabang to enjoy the beach and other sites rather than going back to Puerto Prinsesa..
You have two options to get to Sabang from Puerto Prinsesa City.
First is by standard Underground river tour offered by the city government which will cost you 1500 Php. You have the option to stay in Sabang and not go back to Puerto Prinsesa as the regular tour suggests. This is what we did. The trip took 1 hour and 50 minutes.
***Insider tip: You can contact Mr. Rolly Talatagod, a local tricycle driver at +63 0907 804 7887 for an arrangement of a tour that will cost only 1100 Php. He has contact in the tourism office that cuts the fee allotted to hotels.
Second is by public transportation, the San Jose-Sabang Mini Bus. From Puerto Prinsesa city, take a 7km ride on tricycle for 30-50 Php to the San Jose Bus Terminal where most north bound bus to Sabang and El Nido can be found.

As of March 2010 a trip from the San Jose Bus Terminal to Sabang Pier would cost 150 Php. A San Jose to Sabang bus trip sets off 3X only at 7AM, 9AM and 12NN. The bus will go if the bus is full. If not, it will stick to the original schedule.
The trip to Sabang will take 2 to 3 hours depending on the number of loading and unloading stops that the public transport will be engaging.
Aside from the Underground River, Sabang has a set of spots to visit and a night in this place will be good for Puerto Prinsesa Palawan visitors. This includes the Sabang Mangrove Tour, the white beach, Daluyon Beach Resort, Dab-Dab resort, the Rock trek and Sabang Falls.
Sabang Mangrove Tour
The SMT house can be found less than a kilometer away from the right side of Sabang Pier. A walk would take 15-20 minutes.
From here you can take a 45 minute guided tug boat tour on brackish water for 120Php.
The boatman is trained to give you facts and stories about the river and mangrove education. Oh there are male and female “bakawan” or mangrove. Female have wide leaves and males have narrow leaves. Most female produce seeds but there are some males who lay seeds too. FTW Mang Kenneth!
There are no crocodiles. Sad!
We found a yellow green colored snake, a monitor lizard and 3 monkeys on the way and back.
This is a great thing to do yet only a few knows that this exists.
Sabang White beach
On a regular Underground River Tour, you will have a lunch in the white beach area of Sabang. This is where we knew most of our group tour members Janos, Rhea, Chandra, Jason, John and Ana.
White beach on the right side of the pier is good for swimming and a fun place to play in the waves. There are several budget beach resorts in this area. Finding a place to stay should be easy. See the complete list of resorts from Travel Philippines site.
There can be a strong waves and undertow when the sea is rough. Normally small waves steadily push the 200m flat coastal line. The red sunset at 6PM is amazing.

There are many beach bum dogs here, literally.
The beach reminds me of Puerto Galera white beach without the corals and rocks in the shoreline (and the dogs).
Daluyon Beach Resort
Daluyon Beach resort is a 4 star resort located in the jungle. It poses the highest standard accommodation available in Sabang. Daluyon is the only place in Sabang with satellite internet and WiFi. Coolness!
There is a pool and the rooms have hot and cold water available. There is cable TV, air-conditioning and 24 hour power.
Note: Since the power grid has not reached barangay Sabang. Resorts power their generators from 6PM to 12 midnight then its lights off.
Dab-Dab Beach Resort

This resort is beautiful place to stay and very good value for money. They have very affordable rates. The cottage is surrounded by a flower garden. It has a large balcony with a hammock which is good for chilling out. They have clean and cute private bathrooms. A great panoramic view of a rocky ocean floor awaits visitors in Dab-Dab. The down side is that you need to walk 5-10 minutes to get to the white beach because it is not located in the right side of Sabang.

Read more about Dab-Dab in Travel Philippines. http://www.travel-philippines.com/locations/palawan/3-sabang.htm
The Rock trek
“Bato” is Tagalog term for rock and you will see plenty of them in the 1 km rock trek on the way to Sabang Falls. This is located 300 meters on the left side of Sabang Pier.

Wear your most comfortable shoes as you will be walking 45 minutes along small, big and humungous rocks.
Sabang Falls
This waterfall is a site to see in Sabang with a challenge. It is located 1.2 km away from the left side of Sabang Pier that goes along the 45 minute Rock trek.

There is little water flowing at the time we went because of the El Nino phenomenon. During summer, its a false waterfalls.
Alpuerto Escapade Resort is the gateway to the Rock trek and Sabang Falls. A donation to the site is appreciated. They also have accommodations available however it is far from white beach.

You can also pass a big trees and a Chinese temple on the way.

The water is very cold and they have a spot where you can shower yourself with it. Huge rocks can be found amidst the waterfall where water falls directly to the ocean.

hi miss maricar, its nice to know you enjoyed staying in the Philippines for your honeymoon. There are a lot of places to see. Some good treats are even free like the waterfalls and the sunsets.
Hope you can invite other friends to visit the Philippines too.

Hi, I’m an elementary teacher in Iloilo and I plan to bring my students to Sabang for camping. I have 16 12-13-year-old students. Ideally, I would like to visit Al Puerto Escapade because we are learning Buddhism now as part of our History Block, but although I have seen their cellphone number posted at Puertoprinsesa.com, it’s not in use anymore. Would you help me contact them? Also, I’m looking for a place where we could be allowed to camp in tents and cook in the open fire and (hopefully) have to pay only very little. Do you know of a place like that which could cater to what we needs? Thanks
